Five Inspiring People You Should Follow on Twitter
Starts With You
Did you know that 56% of Americans have a profile on a social networking site? That means that over half of us are sharing and posting our daily musings for all to read -- whether it's on Facebook, Twitter or any of the others. At times, social media can be overwhelming with brands, celebrities, friends, and strangers overloading our feeds with often mundane, self-serving updates. Don’t get me wrong, I love keeping up with my social community, but that’s only because mixed in with following my friend who posts a photo of every meal she eats three times a day and the celebrity that posts multiple close up “selfies” of just their own face everyday, I follow some pretty inspiring accounts.
If you feel like you feed needs some added inspiration, here is my list of the 5 best people to follow on social media for a little inspiration!
1. Marianne Williamson (@marwilliamson): She's a spiritual activist, author and lecturer who has published nine books, including four New York Times #1 bestsellers. Her ratio of excellent, thoughtful tweets to links to buy her books is very high.
If all of us forgive one person today, the world will be a much better place.— Marianne Williamson (@marwilliamson) June 15, 2013
2. Tara Stiles- (@tarastiles): Tara is the global ambassador for Reebok yoga. She was named “yoga rebel” by the New York Times, and she inspired people around the world with her ultra-cool beauty and outlook on yoga, meditation, nutrition and well-being. She posts amazing videos of yoga and meditations you can do in your living room, and daily inspiring tweets of wisdom. Plus, her body is incredible and is seriously motivating to everyone to workout and eat well!
Be careful of choosing what you do based on acquiring things you don't really need to impress people you don't really like.— Tara Stiles (@TaraStiles) June 17, 2013
3.- Alicia Silverstone (@AliciaSilv)- Known best for her acting and cult-classic performance in Clueless, Alicia has grown-up, become a mom and is now inspiring people to eat clean and embrace a vegan diet with her best-selling book “The Kind Life.” Her site, and twitter feed remind me daily to be aware of what I am eating and to question everything that mass-marketed foods are trying to ‘sell’ us. She finds recipes, tricks, substitutions, and inspirations to help everyone be the healthiest they can be without forcing spinach down our throats. Her recipes are to die for, and most of them are dairy, meat, soy free-which means anyone following a clean diet can eat them-Yum!
4. Austin Carlile (@austincarlile)- While it has become the norm to follow celebrity twitter feeds and gawk at the ridiculousness of the Kayne West’s and Miley Cyrus’s of the world, some celebs get it right. Austin Carlile is the frontman of Of Mice & Men, has overcome his own dramatic musical past (and celebrity mugshot) to be one of the most inspiring musicians on twitter. His rough edges inspire the authentic life lessons he put forward in just 140 characters. I think you might like the music, too.
No one knows YOU better than you know yourself. Let other people’s opinions fall on busy ears, busy w/ working towards your personal goals.— Austin Carlile (@austincarlile) April 30, 2013
#5- Oprah Winfrey (@oprah)- If you are one of the seventeen million people that are already following the queen of inspiration, then you know why she makes this list. Oprah’s sunday morning hashtag fest #supersoulsunday and her #masterclass has created a global community of inspired thinkers wishing to connect and grow. Inside Oprah’s feed, we get a look at what her life is like (right now she’s obsessed with her new garden) and tons of wonderful quotes, lessons and connects us with other forward thinkers.
